Modern: A new WordPress theme

Modern is a light, simple and modern theme for WordPress 1.5-2.0. Page links in Modern are layed out horizontally at the top—rather than in the sidebar—creating a clearer distinction between permanent and updated content. Only two image-files are used. The theme strives to use as semantic markup as possible and validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.1. Modern has been tested in Opera 9.0 beta, Firefox 1.5 and Internet Explorer 6.0. Modern is licensed under the LGPL.

  • Fast and light
  • Easy to use: well-structured css-file, no plug-ins required
  • Page and Archive pages included
  • Supports theme previews in WordPress 2.0
  • Careful typography and use of whitespace

Thanks for your work. I was looking for a clear and light theme. I found it, and I really love it. Maybe blockquote are a little to small ;)

Thanks anyway, it works perfectly with my wordpress 2.0rc3 installation !

zene: My blog is using a slightly modified version, which I may make into 1.0.

    Beautiful theme!

For those of us who are less php-savvy, could you please provide documentation as to customize the tabs at the top of each page? The default install simply comes with a link to ‘Home’, but how does a user add additional tabs as you have done on your site?

    Any help would be appreciated!

To add pages there is no need to be php-savvy and it has nothing to do with themes. Instead, you simply add new pages from within your control panel in WordPress. See the WordPress documentation at
